Douglas’ spirea, or Hardhack, forms very dense stands in marshy areas or along stream banks throughout much of the Pacific Northwest. It flowers from July to August, with upright plumes of many tiny bright pink flowers. These plumes dry and often remain on the plants through the winter. The leaves can be quite variable in size, and often have a pale underside.. (Portland Plant List, 2016)
