      Pacific Ninebark is easily recognized by its habit of shedding its reddish bark in peeling vertical strips on the older wood and twigs. The common name refers to a popular notion that there are nine layer of thin bark on the stems. Pacific ninebark has small white flowers in 2–3” rounded cluster from May to June. As the flowers mature, they form clusters of reddish seed capsules that dry out and turn brown by late summer. (Portland Plant List, 2016)
