Armeria maritima

Thrift Seapink is a darling, compact, evergreen plant that produces small, globe-shaped pink to lavender (or sometimes white) flowers. It is common along the Oregon coast so be sure to give it sandy or rocky, low-nutrient soils to enjoy its stunning flowers year after year.

  • Plant type/canopy layer: evergreen perennial herbaceous plant
  • Size at maturity: 6-12" tall, clumps 4”-8” wide
  • Light requirements: full sun
  • Moisture requirements: dry soil
  • Bloom time: April - August
  • Growth rate/ease: moderate growth rate, moderately difficult to grow
  • Wildlife support: unknown
  • Native habitat/range: Locally common in bluffs, grasslands, and coastal sands, from sea level to 600 ft. along the coasts of OR and WA. Portland Plant List - no.
  • Special features & uses: drought tolerant, evergreen

Gardening with Thrift Seapink: This plant is ideal for dry, well-drained or sandy areas of your yard - such as a rock garden. Since it is evergreen, it should not be cut back to the ground in fall as that will affect spring bloom. Don't baby this beauty - it will not tolerate supplemental water, nor soils that are too-rich or heavy.
