The Grand Fir is the only native fir that is common in the lower elevations (below 2500’) of Western Oregon. Its needles are arranged in flat sprays on opposite sides of the twig, and when crushed have a tangerine—like fragrance. Grand Fir is able to reproduce in dense shade and young seedlings may be found growing in the understory of Douglas fir forests. (Portland Plant List, 2016)
